"March" - an original handprinted 7-colour wood engraving, inspired by the the wonderful and most welcome awakening of nature in early spring. I managed to get most of my favourite wild flowers in it - fritillaries (the most magical of them all), snowdrops, daffodils, crocuses, bluebells and tulips.
"March" is printed from 5 different blocks of wood (3 lemonwood blocks and 2 blocks of pear wood).
Wood engraving is a form of relief printmaking. The image is engraved with very sharp finely-pointed tools into a mirror- smooth surface of an endgrain block. The surface is then inked up and the image is printed onto paper. I print my wood engravings on an antique cast iron hand press made in 1868.
Handprinted in highly-pigmented oil-based ink on 2 types of paper: smooth bright white or slightly textured warm white (the colours are ever so slightly more muted - see photo for compairison).
You can choose between an unmounted print or mounted with an acid-free backboard and mount ready to fit a standard 8x10 inch frame. The mount is affixed with paper "hinges" and can be removed if needed.
Image size 7x 8,2 cm. Paper size appr. 16x21cm.
Titled, numbered and signed in pencil.
A limited edition.
Because the image is inked and printed by hand, there may be slight variations in tone.
